Job Description

Nuanced Health is hiring a highly motivated and independent Research Associate to help other scientists to advance our pipeline. You should be motivated to learn about current workflows of microbiome research, working both with mice and in the wet lab. An ideal teammate is intentionally curious, highly adaptable, committed to learning, and passionate about innovating in a fast-paced start-up environment. We are currently looking for individuals willing to commit to full-time work with hourly pay.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of primary cell isolations from tissues for downstream analysis (i.e, flow cytometry, single cell multi-omics etc.)
  • Execute in vivo disease studies to identify and explore novel targets
  • Develop, optimize and troubleshoot tissue processing and assays including RNA isolation, qPCR, phenotypic assays
  • Isolate, select, and grow bacterial strains, preparing them for analysis
  • Document experimental procedures in a digital lab notebook, perform basic data analysis, and manage inventory of animals and biological samples
  • Collaborate closely with R&D scientists to enable and assist in downstream mouse and in vitro experiments
  • Support as need in vivo research team, including animal husbandry (changing cages, supply inventory, sentinel collection)

Skills and Qualifications

  • Completed a BS/MS in Cell Biology/Immunology or a related biomedical field + 2 years experience in working in a full-time research lab
  • Experience with ex vivo tissue sample processing, homogenization, and generation of single-cell suspensions for ex vivo analysis including flow cytometry, blood and plasma/serum cytokine measurements
  • Experience with isolation of mouse primary cells such as splenocytes, PBMC/WBC. In vitro cell culture including culture of cancer cell lines is a plus
  • Proven experience with RNA/DNA extractions, PCR/RT-PCR/qPCR, flow cytometry, and a variety of molecular, biochemical, and immunological techniques or other ex vivo tissue analysis methods will be beneficial
  • Technical skills working with mouse models, e.g. animal handling, animal identification, blood collection, necropsy
  • Technical proficiency dosing mice by various routes (SQ, IV, IP, PO)
  • Candidates must be a team player, strong individual contributor, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Skilled in statistical analysis, graphing programs like Graphpad Prism, PowerPoint presentations and Excel
